Area residents will have an opportunity to take advantage of a day of free swimming at the Starvaggi Memorial Pool set from
to on Labor Day.
As Labor Day approaches, the summer swimming season is wrapping up, and the Starvaggi Memorial Pool will be closing its doors
for the regular season.
Ward 7 Councilman and Park Board Director Terry Weigel said that thanks to warm days and new membership passes, the pool has
seen a lot of action this summer. He said the pool will remain open this weekend during regular hours but will close next
"We're going to go ahead and open back up for the Labor Day weekend like we have over the past few years," he said.
Park Board member Deb Witkowski asked if another "free day" could be held at the pool.
Weigel said it was possible because it didn't have a strong effect on the revenue side and would serve as a way of showing
how much the board appreciates support from the community.
He said the park board authorized bonus weekends and free swim days beginning last year, and it is something the board
has decided to continue.
