It’s the quest for
rights and personal bests when area runners, walkers and casual enthusiasts
take part in the upcoming
Marland Heights 5-K Classic and community races Friday, Aug. 21.
The Marland Heights
5-K Classic is a community health and fitness event hosted by the Weirton Board
of Parks & Recreation and sponsored by local businesses. It’s geared for
the entire family with races certain to attract people of all ages.
Along with the 5-K race
the city streets on Marland
Heights, the event will
also feature a two-mile fitness walk and youth races for children 12 and under.
Returning for the 8th year
will be the popular High School 5-K Challenge with a special team award
presented to those participants accumulating the most race points based on
their finish position.
Following the race, there
will be a special awards ceremony and cookout for all participants and event
sponsors, organizers confirmed.

The cost to enter is $14
advance for the adult races ($10 for teens) and $2 for youngsters participating
in the Youth Fun Run.
Race t-shirts will be given
to the first 80 participants for the major races and walk.
