The Charles and Thelma Pugliese Charitable Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to Millsop Community Center.
The grant will provide partial funding toward the Weirton Park Board's gym window replacement project. It also is part of
an overall energy efficiency plan for the community center.
Executive Director Terry Weigel says the Pugliese grant will help to assure the original windows get replaced in the gymnasium
in the coming months. Those windows are more than 50 years old.
Last month, the Park Board began paying for steam it gets from Mittal Steel to heat the community center and its amenities.
Free steam had been provided for years when the hot mill was in operation.
Weigel says new windows will make the facility more energy efficient as the recreation department looks to install a new heating
system in the coming months.
Officials are hopeful that new windows and a heating system, along with locker room renovations, will keep new utility costs
affordable for the city recreation budget.
The Weirton Renaissance Committee has also been instrumental in the renovation project.
